I Donut Care

No writing done this weekend, but I finished an art:

I've also re-done my budget, and a system for rewarding myself for words written. Maybe I'll show screenshots of that another day.

Progress Report

Yesterday I wrote, but it wasn't on any of the three (four?) projects I'm actually supposed to be working on right now. Whoops.

Today I wrote a bit on QUIET CHANGES (or will it be QUIET PLACES?). I'm also listening to some bluegrass and old time music. Anything with a fiddle in it, really.

It's actually time for me to go to bed, but I have to do a couple of things over the next few days. I need to re-evaluate my budget, and I need to incorporate writing into earning my spending money.

Bad night, unproductive day.

FERAL Polish

I forgot to post last night! Whoops. And I'm supposed to be in bed and asleep already, so this will be a short one.

Yesterday I polished about a third of FERAL, and got another third done today. Hoping to finish up the polish tomorrow. And then I'll look at maybe making a cover.

Progress

This morning, I imported FERAL into Reedsy and started polishing. I'm kind of hoping to be able to finish it by the end of the weekend? It shouldn't take too much work. (Famous last words.)

I'm also working on a visual art piece, in a similar vein to the last one I posted, but more finished. I finished laying down inks on it today, I'm going to give that at least a day to fully dry before I start thinking about watercolors.

Push

No writing done today.

I did hatch a cunning plan, though. It seems like a genuine shame that nobody but me and a couple of my friends ever get to read FERAL, and I want to experiment with formatting on Reedsy. So I'm gonna give FERAL a final polish and then see if I can make it into a nice-looking ebook that I can just give out for free.

The common wisdom would be to start collecting a mailing list with this free giveaway, but I don't think I can manage regular mailing list updates right now. I have no product funnel, and I'm not sure fans of FERAL would even like the books I'm working on now, which is one of the main reasons I don't plan to sell it. I just want people to be able to read my book if they want.

50% Sad Boy, 50% Zombie

I am starting this journal because I think it's the best way to move forward.

Two weeks ago, I ended my relationship with my partner of almost a decade. In a twist that I could not possibly see coming, this has caused a significant disruption to my work, and I'm spending a lot of time right now being a sad boy instead of a productive boy. And spamming my best friend with long, introspective emails.

I am hoping that a journal will provide me somewhere to work out some of these #feelings (I can't promise those posts will be public, though), and will also allow me a framework to start building accountability. They say it's good to write your goals down. I guess so, because now that I have them written down (in my profile), I am forced to acknowledge that I do need to decide when I'm going to start the clock on my five years to 20 books goal.

I think this is year 0. I want to have four books mostly written by the end of this year, so I can start publishing next year.

I guess my other goal is to post here at least once per day. So that if I do absolutely nothing, I am forced to write down that I did nothing.

The other thing I'm doing this morning (during the time that used to be reserved for writing, but is currently reserved for being a sad boy) is investigating Reedsy as a writing tool. I've created an account and a 'test book' so I can have a look at the interface. It looks a lot like Scrivener, which I appreciate, but it looks less customizable than Scrivener. There's no 'draft' or 'research' folders. I don't know that I'll be able to write directly into Reedsy, but using it for formatting and to find an editor seems promising.

Alright, I really have to go get ready for work now. I have forgotten how to end journal entries. Goodbye?
